Alan J. Jarand has been director of radio for the Illinois Farm Bureau since April 1979.

As director of radio, Alan is responsible for the management and administration of the RFD Radio Network. He also is responsible for maintaining affiliate relations with over 70 radio stations throughout Illinois. He is one of the primary radio voices for the network and does public speaking on behalf of the Illinois Farm Bureau and the RFD Radio Network.

Prior to his present position, Alan served as IFB's broadcast editor since joining the IFB in 1978.

Alan is a native of Moultrie County and is also graduate of Eastern Illinois University. He is a member of National Association of Farm Broadcasters, Radio-TV News Directors Association, and Illinois News Broadcasters Association. He and his wife, Marjorie, live in Normal.

Julie Root joined the Radio Department in the News and Communications Division as Network Anchor/Broadcast Editor. In this position, Julie will host or co-host the varied radio programs produced for the RFD Radio Network. Her responsibilities include gathering and writing news items, coverage of major agricultural events, and working with network advertisers. In addition she will assist in maintaining professional relationships with the seventy affiliates of the network.

Julie worked most recently as the Morning Edition Anchor/Host at Tri States Public Radio in Macomb. Prior to that, she was News Director at WGIL-AM in Galesburg; Afternoon News Anchor/Reporter at WJPF-AM in Carterville; part-time News Reporter/Anchor/Farm Broadcaster at WJBC in Bloomington; and AgriBusiness Intern at 1470 WMBD/1290 WIRL in Peoria.

Julie is a member of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association and serves as the Membership Committee Chair.
